Professor Michel E. Abs is an economist, sociologist and university professor serving as Secretary General of the Middle East Council of Churches and Co-President of Religions for Peace.

Professor Michel E. Abs is an economist, sociologist, university professor and ecumenical leader. He holds undergraduate and graduate qualifications in economics and sociology, including a doctorate in sociology focused on economic behaviour. His academic career spans nearly five decades alongside work in business, education and development management. Elected Secretary General of the Middle East Council of Churches in 2020, he was unanimously re-elected for a second term in 2024 and serves as Co-President of Religions for Peace.
